Rosalind Akins is currently a community organizer in South Phoenix with Mass Liberation Arizona. She has been working on issues that have impacted her community for over a decade. In 2010, Jan Brewer awarded Rosalind with "Community Mom of the Year" award for her work with local mothers and children in South Phoenix. Rosalind lost her youngest son to gun violence and took to the streets to talk to young men in gangs about Black on Black violence. She has spent her life witnessing disparities of families impacted by the criminal justice system and is dedicated to making her community safer and healthier by re-imagining Arizona's punitive justice system and decarcerating Arizona.
